Utilizing body to recount space and time
Les Petites Choses Production (LPCP) explores the freedom and limitations of being human through interactions. The company’s operational aesthetic evolves through a constant process of communication and movement and consequent sensory experience, delving into the reasons why we move, express ourselves, and touch each other emotionally.
LPCP firmly believes that our body is not only a tool but also the key to connect with people. During the pandemic, the company was restructured as an artistic co-operative, endeavoring to continue its artistic practice in public spaces, fostering public art in the community.
In 2018, the company launched the first community-based subscription program entitled Monday School. Two years later, LPCP was chosen as part of the Taiwan Season at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
In 2021, the company was honored as an outstanding performing arts group in Taipei and invited to perform at the President Award (organized by the General Association of Chinese Culture). The group is regularly featured in Taipei’s Nuit Blanche, and has also collaborated with Taiwan’s pop artists.

The Garden of Earthly Delights
The Garden of Earthly Delights draws its name from Hieronymus Bosch’s triptych. It also draws inspiration from the landscapes. Artist CHUANG Che-Wei poetically blends these seemingly unrelated elements to generate new imagery, infusing the garden with added imagination and experience.
The bizarre combinations of creatures, plants, and humans in Bosch’s painting and the biblical stories and pictorial imagery are transformed into outdoor installations in the Baroque Garden Taipei, generative AI drawings, and music and dance that traverse the garden’s flora, fauna, and structures. The entire work comprises a combination of unique elements, including scaffolding and images set up in a triptych altar format on the garden square.

Choreographer Yang Nai-Hsuan has seen many couples who wear formal gowns and suits while “tying the knot,” receiving happy blessings from people around them as they entering a new phase in life. Yet, many feel lonely as time goes by, as they continue to fulfill their responsibilities.
This is especially true with married women who form the backbone of society. The expectations of the ideal marriage filled with love and life’s harsh realities unsettle both sexes, as personal pain unfolds into open lament. The bittersweet weight of love bears on both male and female shoulders.
[Les Petites Choses Production] utilizes alternative space adroitly to create unconventional theatrical experiences. I’ll never forget the sight of a male dancer walking on the bodies of five female dancers.

In what physical form do we really exist? These days, everything tangible can be “reworked” to fit societal expectations, depending on different cultures. From the most immediate (our own bodies) to collective groups, people constantly change themselves in order to satisfy others, despite our inability to achieve perfection.
Limitations are congenital, since we can neither understand everything in the world, nor grasp what’s in other people’s minds. These are the parameters of being human, with many answers to the meaning of existence.
