Founded by the artistic director Ljuzem Madiljin in 2006 with Baru Madiljin as the dance director and choreographer, Tjimur Dance Theatre is devoted to interpreting contemporary experiences through ancient ballads. The troupe integrates song with dance and uses song as a guide for dance moves to display the exceptional bodily expressions of Paiwan culture, a unique approach among the contemporary dance troupes of Taiwan.
bulabulay mun? (South Paiwan “how are you?”) is choreographer Baru Madiljin’s homage to Paiwan people of the Mudan Incident (A.D.1874). Tjimur Dance Theatre has incorporated the traditional anthems and dance of the South Paiwan people in Sinvaudjan and penetrates the sound and imagery from Mudan’s sea mountain and sea in the theater.
